A Doll’s House
An Art Exhibition by Take 13
Take 13 is a group of women artists based in the West Midlands who for the past 8 years have exhibited, in various venues, often with a theme of a ‘Room Of Our Own’ Over the past months they have carried this idea further and collaborated, initially through literary sources amongst other ideas, with the image of ‘A Doll’s House’, They have using it as a way of focussing their individual art work to make their own, often diverse and creative responses with a variety of media.
The themes have ranged from nostalgic childhood memories to more challenging aspects about the constraints of motherhood and wifely duty, entrapment and the broader role of women in a domestic setting.
Questions that could be reflected upon…
What does a Dolls House mean for you?
Is it a totally female image?
How does a childhood toy have so much resonance?
How effectively can these responses be translated into visual work, as opposed to the written word?
